“How did we reach an era where we have to certify things that should be normal?’ I was born before fast fashion. When I was a student and when I started working, we didn’t have fast fashion and yet I managed to get dressed every day in a nice way. I just invested in pieces which were good quality and would last a long time in my wardrobe. Call it ‘eco-fashion’ if you like, but I think it’s just common sense” – Carlo Petrini – founder of the Slow Food movement
“You make them so cheap so that people feel rich because they can buy so much, you’re giving the consumer what they want. Well, my children want sugar every single day, but I don’t give it to them!” Livia Firth omkring High Street butikker.
“Everything fashion – and admittedly, I am talking about the established fashion industry, the big brands — does is predicated toward teaching consumers that they need the new and last season is the old, and this goes for high fashion and the high street, where I have even heard some friends advise others that if they have worn a garment to death, they should just get rid of it, and not even bother trying to clean it. The cleaning costs more than the piece of clothing.” – Vanessa Friedman
‘‘Of course I try not to waste and my way of not wasting is to try to concentrate on quality not quantity. And you know my message, it is buy less, choose well, make it last. Even better, don’t buy anything. Don’t buy any clothes for ages until you really have to.” – Vivienne Westwood
